A careful refresh of the sacristy, oratory, and related spaces at St. Matthew’s Cathedral. We focused on quality finishes, custom millwork, and getting the details right in a space that serves an important role in the life of this historic East Dallas church.

The Challenge

The team at St. Matthew’s needed to update their sacristy and oratory spaces while keeping everything functional for ongoing church activities. This involved custom-ordered carpet, new custom cabinets, updated flooring, and a high-quality Level 5 wall finish.

Working in a historic church setting added layers: a tight timeline, coordinating around services and community use, and pushing through winter conditions with limited heat (which makes paint and finishes much trickier to work with). Sourcing and installing the custom cabinets on schedule was another key piece.

Our Approach

We worked closely with the Owner’s Representative and Farrell Architects from the start. Our focus was clear communication, detailed planning, and steady progress so the church could stay operational with as little disruption as possible.

Key elements of the work:

  • Custom cabinetry and millwork tailored to the space’s needs
  • New flooring and custom-ordered carpet for durability and a clean, elevated look
  • Level 5 wall finishes for a smooth, professional appearance
  • Careful management of the schedule and site conditions, including the challenges of colder weather affecting drying times

We kept updates flowing regularly so everyone stayed informed, even when weather or material lead times tried to slow things down. The result is refreshed, functional spaces that support the cathedral’s daily work while respecting its character.
